mec film is a distribution and co-production for films exclusively from the Middle East. mec stands for middle eastern cinemas. We represent short, medium, and feature length documentary and fiction films that offer a different perspective on the region; always from an inside perspective. On the background of ongoing debates about the region - religion, Islamism and violence, the role of women, or terror - we want to add a different angle and show films that are made in the Middle East.

Most of the filmmakers tell small stories about the everyday life, one finds the turbulences of the region reflected in the people's lives, however. Due to the political situation the films deal in one way or the other with violence, yet they carry bundles of love.

mec film was founded in 2002 by Irit Neidhardt, she is assisted on a free lance basis by  Sabina Rolle.
